The Bible and Books on It

In my opinion the best bible printed, for precisely as language will allow, is of course the Latin Vulgate. But if you have not study Latin in school the best English Language alternative is the “Douay-Rheims & Clementina Vulgate (English and Latin Edition),” so you can see the Latin and possibly get clarification of a meaning given a particular bible verse.

If you are simply looking for the English version a much better value is “The Holy Bible: Douay-Rheims Version.”:

The Douay-Rheims bible itself, as I understand, unlike many other bibles, is public domain, which basically means, as I understand but am not a lawyer, you can quote without attribution and not get sued by anyone, but it is always best and honest police to cite any quotes you make.  This, “public domain” of course does not cover any preface or pictures or maps etc. that are in addition to the original text.

Next is an argument, “The Bible is a Catholic Book,” (which is the title of this book) that should be self-evident with the use of logic since a council of the Catholic church chose the “authorized books” of New Testament, they should have the authority if not the expertise, being that they were given the power by Jesus Christ (when he said in Matthew 28:18-20:  “ . . . All power is given to me in heaven and in earth. Going therefore, teach ye all nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever. I have commanded you: and behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.”) to know which books of the Old Testament literature best and authoritatively support the New Testament and Christ’s plan for it. This again being a more recent book carries no official approbations.  It is also available as an ebook and an audio book.
