The Great Courses Company and Some of the Courses that Might be of Interest to Readers

Several future blogs, punctuated by other “normal blogs” on the usual topics, will be on some of the great courses lecture series because as of this year, early 2025, they stop making physical media i.e. CDs or DVDs.  You can buy access to the courses you want but they are all offered through a streaming server.  The fact is some are still available on amazon/ebay, I assume for the near future and arguably until at least the end of the year, and I don’t like depending on the internet because something catastrophic can always occur which would make it inaccessible in the future.  This might be something local like communications being broken for a few days, to social unrest disrupting services, to war or some other catastrophic occurrence that is way less likely.  It also precludes children taking the initiative to buy a course which may be against the parent’s philosophy or wishes for the child to know.  The fact is the company could possibly go bankrupt without passing/selling the information on the server to another party to sell/run.   Full disclosure, I do have access to the server and sometimes use it, but prefer the most interesting/essential media to be physically owned by me, for not only me and my wife, but my children and grandchildren.

I will break them down to the following sub-topics and give a table of lectures and at least part of the note on the lecturer given on the case as I cover each of the separate ones so you can see whether or not the lecture topics are of interest to you.

Religion with a Catholic leaning

Religion from a protestant or less religious perspective

General religious/philosophical subject matter

Interesting subjects that children may like which you can learn or watch with them

Subjects concerning the establishment of American like bill of rights, federalist papers etc.

Lectures on various science and engineering topics

Lectures on various professions like physician, lawyer etc.
