In the last 2 posts I spoke of the Last supper then the Passion on Calvary of Jesus Christ. I made a point at the end of the last supper post that the Eucharist, which Catholics also call communion is not offered as a new sacrifice, but sort of renews the self-same sacrifice of Calvary. All other sacrifices throughout history only have meaning because of Christs sacrifice. Every other sacrifice is literally of nothing because all other sacrifices were of created things, and therefore get their “lineage” from nothing. Only Jesus Christ’s sacrifice was of something uncreated (the only other “Things” that are uncreated are the Father and the Holy Ghost) and therefore of any value to God.
The Ascension is the culmination of the sacrifice on Calvary. The “indication” that other sacrifices were accepted by God was offered by the natural law when they were burned the smoke rose. In Christ’s situation his sacrifice was actually accepted, by God, plainly, for all to see, because He ascended into heaven. This is the main significance of the ascension, not as just some show for the apostles to show He was divine or had a power God could only possess. The self-resurrection of Jesus Christ was the ultimate demonstration of God-Possessed power and a promise to humans that they would also rise on the last day, to either eternal happiness shared with God Himself through following His commandments through all eternity or eternal chaos and horror in humans following their own selfish desires and damaging each other more and more throughout eternity!
